Stein Named SEC Power Player for March

Southern Electric Corporation has named Marlene Stein, of Richland, MS, as its Power Player for the month of March. A Power Player is someone with integrity and high moral standards, possessing strong leadership qualities, a track record of safe production, and dedication to our company and industry, who is hard-working and represents SEC well in everything that they do, allowing SEC to Power Forward.

Stein, accounts payable clerk in the Flowood office, handles all lodging coordination for the company and has been with SEC for 11 years. “Marlene is dedicated to helping the company negotiate the best rates with hotels,” says supervisor Cindy Hargrove. “She is great with the guys and getting them what they need. We can depend on her day and night, seven days a week,” she adds.

Stein spent 20 years in the public school system, working as a school secretary in Louisiana. She retired in 2012 and moved back to Mississippi. “I was looking for something part time and praying that the right thing would come along when the SEC job fell in my lap,” says Stein. “It was exactly what I was looking for. God always provides, in His timing.”

Stein describes her work as “the perfect job” and says that she loves working at SEC and her coworkers, and she values the relationships she’s cultivated with the guys in the field and the vendors she deals with on a daily basis. “I’m a talker,” she adds, “so I love getting to know all the guys and helping them get what they need to do their jobs.”

“She’s affectionately known as ‘Ms. Marlene’ by the guys,” says SEC Office Manager Joann Sprayberry. “Everyone knows they can count on her no matter what, and that means a lot,” she adds.

Stein has one daughter, Kaci, who also works in accounts payable at SEC, and four granddogs ranging from 8 pounds to 75 pounds. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors working in the yard or vacationing on the beach. She has also played the bass guitar for over 30 years and served numerous years on the praise team at her church, Hickory Ridge Baptist.
