SEC Announces New Employee Recognition Program

Hernandez Named First Month’s Recipient

Southern Electric Corporation is pleased to announce its new employee recognition program… the Power Player of the Month Award.

A Power Player is someone with integrity and high moral standards, possessing strong leadership qualities, a track record of safe production, and dedication to our company and industry, who is hard-working and represents SEC well in everything that they do, allowing SEC to Power Forward.

Our first Power Player of the Month is Julio Hernandez. Hernandez serves as SEC’s IT Manager and has been with the company for just over five years. He has quickly become an integral part of the operations at SEC and is loved by all thanks to his can-do attitude and joyful spirit. Hernandez can be found around the Flowood, Mississippi office most every day (and some nights) taking calls from across the country helping with computer issues, solving phone or GPS problems, and translating for our Spanish-speaking team members.

Hernandez was born and raised in Puerto Rico where he worked in the IT industry for 12 years and joined forces with SEC in 2018 during emergency restoration efforts for Hurricane Maria. Once that work was completed, SEC hired him on full time and he and his family moved to the US so he could work at SEC’s corporate office in Flowood.

“The language barrier was the most difficult part of the transition from Puerto Rico to Flowood, as well as adjusting to the different culture,” says Hernandez. “But since moving here, everyone has been so kind and helpful. SEC is a family to me more than just a job.”

Hard-working, knowledgeable, positive, kind-hearted… these are just a few ways Hernandez’s coworkers and managers describe him. “Julio is always eager to help with a smile and positive energy,” says Jason Siegfried, Vice President of Operations. “As a person in general, he is simply one of my favorite people. He just makes SEC and the world a better place.”

Hernandez says the best part of his job is “helping everyone fulfill their roles at SEC and making sure everyone is working efficiently. I really want SEC and everyone here to succeed. That’s what keeps me going,” he says.

When not at work, Hernandez loves to spend time with his family, especially his nine-year-old son Yael. We think Julio Hernandez is the epitome of a Power Player and proud he is our first Power Player Award recipient.
