SEC Names Hollingworth Power Player for November
Southern Electric Corporation has named Josh “Hollywood” Hollingsworth, of Mt. Olive, Mississippi, as its Power Player for the month of November. A Power Player is someone with integrity and high moral standards, possessing strong leadership qualities, a track record of safe production, and dedication to our company and industry, who is hard-working and represents SEC well in everything that they do, allowing SEC to Power Forward.
Hollingworth, a general foremen in SEC’s transmission division, has been with SEC for six years. He got his start in the industry 23 years ago after his aspirations to be a football coach or join the military didn’t pan out. “I was working as a brick layer with my dad when a buddy came by and asked if I wanted to go build power lines. I told him ‘yeah if it will get me away from here’,” says Hollingsworth. The rest is history.
Hollingworth says the best part of his job is getting to do so many new and different things and being able to help new guys in the field grow in their craft. The worst part, he says, is the long hours.
“Josh does an outstanding job keeping our crews moving in a positive direction,” says Tommy Jackson, SEC’s Director of Operations, Western Division. “He understands the business and what it takes to have a safe, productive crew.”
Hollingsworth also serves as Associate Pastor of Grace Fellowship Church in Mt. Olive, having surrendered to the ministry 14 years ago, and works with recovering addicts at Voice of Hope Recovery rehabilitation facility in Magee, Mississippi. “I had committed to preaching at a revival before getting the job at SEC. I’d only worked here a month or so when I was going to have to ask for a week off to preach,” Hollingworth says. “I was nervous I was about to lose my job as soon as I’d gotten it. But instead my superintendent told me ‘go preach, we’ll take care of the power lines.’ That’s when I knew I was where I was supposed to be. It’s different here.”
When not building power lines or preaching, Hollingsworth enjoys spending time with his wife, Marie, and his five children, Landon (17), Gavin (14), Anna (12), Kaylain (11) and Ella (9).
